  Getting a Tax Refund?

RAL

If you're getting a tax refund this year, it may be tempting to accept a "rapid" for "instant" refund. Some national tax preparation firms offer this option, which many people don't realized is actually a high-interest loan, or refund anticipation loan (RAL).

Interest rates are astounding, ranging from 70% to 1,700% nationwide. And they usually only speed up the refund process by a couple of weeks.

Steer clear of the type of loan and visit the credit union today. Whatever your concerns, we can help with a small consumer loan.

What should You Do With Your Tax Refund?
If you're expecting a tax refund, there are a number of things you can do with that money. Here are a few suggestions:
bulletUse it as part of a down payment on a new car/
bulletBuild your rainy day fund for inevitable budget challengers.
bulletOpen an IRA (individual retirement account) or fund a child's Coverdell Education Savings Account, formerly known as the Education IRA.
bulletAdd it to the fund you're building for a down payment on a house.
bulletApply it to your mortgage principal.

However you choose to invest your tax refund check, remember that your credit union can help.

  Home-Owners Seminar

Coping with Current Mortgage Trends - March 12

SELCCU invites you to attend a free home-owners seminar on Wednesday, March 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. at our office. A representative from our mortgage partner, myCUmortgage, will discuss what members can expect in the current mortgage environment, refinancing an Adjustable Rate Mortgage (ARM), how your home’s loan-to-value is calculated and other related topics.

Refreshments will be provided. Space is limited. If you would like to attend, please contact our Call Center at 440-324-3400 or 800-451-6315. Deadline to R.S.V.P. is Friday, March 7.

VISA® Gift Cards and VISA® Travel Cards

At a loss to find the perfect gift? SELCCU now offers the VISA® Gift Card*, a prepaid card that can be used at millions of locations where VISA debit cards are accepted, including retail stores, online merchants, and mail and phone orders.

Use the VISA Gift Card for any occasion: birthdays, holidays, graduations or weddings. The recipient can use it to buy what they want, when they want, where they want. Because it’s a prepaid card, spending is limited to the initial amount of money you place on the card at the time of purchase.

SELCCU also has a prepaid, reloadable VISA Travel Card*, a debit card which offers you a convenient alternative to travelers checks or cash. At the time of purchase, you may load up to $3,000 on the card. The card is accepted at millions of places worldwide—wherever you see the VISA symbol. Use it for point-of-sale transactions or at any ATM. Unlike cash, the travel card can be replaced if lost or stolen.

For more information, stop in and ask to speak with one of our financial services representatives.

* $3 fee for VISA Gift Card; $9 fee for VISA Travel Card. Card issuer may charge additional fees for non-usage, reloads, replacement card(s) or ATM usage. Ask SELCCU for full details on all fees.

 Spring Break Travel Reminder
